United States House Agriculture Subcommittee on Nutrition and Horticulture

The House Subcommittee on Nutrition and Horticulture is a subcommittee within the House Agriculture Committee. It was first created during the 110th Congress as the Subcommittee on Horticulture and Organic Agriculture.

Jurisdiction

The subcommittee handles all matters relating to horticulture from the former Subcommittee on Livestock and Horticulture. Specific commodities and activities under its review are fruits and vegetables; honey and bees; marketing and promotion orders; plant pesticides, quarantine, adulteration of seeds, and insect pests; and organic agriculture. At the beginning of the 112th Congress, the subcommittee gained jurisdiction over nutrition and consumer programs such as the federal food stamp program, which provides assistance to needy families and the Food Pyramid, from the former Subcommittee on Department Operations, Oversight, Nutrition and Forestry.^[1]
